Ivo werd geboren in Rotterdam. In 1986 studeerde hij af aan de Faculteit der Technische Natuurkunde van de Technische Universiteit Delft op het onderwerp onderzeese gasontsnappingen. In 1992 promoveerde hij op het proefschift The Blending of Liquids in Stirred Vessels. Van 1991 tot 1995 werkte Ivo bij Interduct, het instituut voor schone technologie van de TU Delft, en sinds november 1995 werkt hij in de sectie Energie & Industrie van de faculteit Techniek, Bestuur & Management. 

Ivo was born in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). In 1986 he graduated at the Faculty of Applied Physics of Delft University of Technology on the subject of Underwater Gas Escapes. He received his PhD in 1992 for the thesis The Blending of Liquids in Stirred Vessels. From 1991 to 1995, Ivo worked at Interduct, Delft University Clean Technology Institute, and in November 1995 he joined the group of Energy & Industry of the faculty of Technology, Policy & Management.
